Clement Le Cossec, the founder who is often referred to as the Apostle to the Gypsies, started the work among Gypsies in over 42 nations. He first came to India in 1966. On his arrival and upon seeing a great misery and poverty where children sleep on the sidewalks of Mumbai, living among the rats, a father begging so that his children might have a meal of rice a day.
